7 February - Saigon, Vietnam

We arrived at the Saigon port about 10:30 this morning. We will overnight here… I ran into Conny, Josef, Anke and Klaus  on my way to the Riviera Lounge for my tour departure. They were on their way to spend the night in Saigon.  I’ll get a debrief at dinner on 9Feb… I think Nancy and I will do something like that.

So today was the Mekong River Cruise. The bus rides takes about 90 minutes to get to the first stop. Another temple with Buddhas (standing, reclining, and sitting). They were huge…

But what was really interesting were the big ass bonsais… I’ve googled multiple ways can’t seem to find any info… but these are everywhere in Vietnam… and they Bonsai anything…

Notice the Doublemint Gum bench

This has some sort of support system

So the Crysanthemums in gold are EVERYWHERE…
They line the streets, in front of houses
It’s a Lunar New Year thing
And everyone looks good in those hats !

The bougainvillea is spectacular

The next part of the tour was on the Mekong River… Got on a boat, travelled to Unicorn Island for lunch… then off to a bee ‘farm’ / snake place… then a walk along the island’s main road, then a stop for some fruit… and then a sampan trip down a canal… I was with a nice group of folks (only 12 of us)

Singaporean Beer with Lunch

Elephant Ear Fish at the beginning of Lunch

Same fish at the end… they made spring rolls with it… delicious

Guide with bees

Bee pollen tea with honey and kumquats

Baby python… not my thing!!!

And finally the sampan boat ride back to the ‘big boat’ and then the bus and the 90 minute ride back to the ship

Rush hour

Waterfront property

Again everyone looks good in that hat:)

So that wrinkly thing is a water coconut…
Good for eating not for drinking
I did not partake :)

Signing off for now - back at the boat, a city tour of Saigon tomorrow… Nite everyone
