30 January - Brunei

Brunei… is interesting…. The list of ‘nos’ in the Daily Currents (the daily newsletter from the ship) was pretty long… so it didn’t seem like a very friendly country… Lots of ‘gold and pomp and circumstance’.  Seemed more muslim… First stop was the ‘Royal Regalia’ museum.  A museum dedicated to the Sultan and all the trappings that go along with that… here are some of the pics from the museum:

This is the ‘chariot’ the Sultan was ‘pulled in’

Who doesn’t like a lot of matching umbrellas.. these were carried in the coronation

I know this isn’t a great phot - that is my plaid shirt… but this was a gift from Singapore… I thought it was lovely!

Then we went to Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque… It is the largest mosque in the country and can hold about  5,000 worshippers.  The mosque has 29 golden domes and four minarets.

This is all tile work… it is stunning

Here I am!!!

Then we went to the water village, a small boat trip to visit a water village family...

Sunset as we approach the village

Typical home

Another home

One more

Last stop was a night food market… food looked and smelled great… but I was not very adventurous!

Tomorrow Kota Kinabalu..
