Early am… Bright eyed…















Today we were on an organized tour ‘Bangkok in a Day’. Quite the day…. First the 2.5 hour drive
  • Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha
  • Canal and Chao Phraya River
  • Wat Arun
  • Lovely catered lunch at the Royal Orchid Sheraton… a little shopping and then the LONG ride home… (can’t lie I think we all nodded off)

The trip was not without its excitement!! The Grand Palace was CRAZY busy… lots of folks… we had to stop on the way in to buy the ubiqutous elephant pants… since a bunch of folks didn’t read the ‘Currents’ regarding covering you knees… and they weren’t all women. Liz’s Family (and maybe Nancy’s too) don’t be surprised if elephant pants are in your future. While we were admiring the details of the architecture… our new friend Emily lost her husband Andy (they are from Georgia)… Andy is hard to lose… he is at least 6’4” carrying a camera on a stick… wearing ubiquitous elephant pant … Emily turned to me… and said ‘have you seen Andy’… so the entire group started looking for Andy… apparently this is not the first time he has been ‘lost’…  not to worry we found… and he got a ‘major talking to’. 

The next excitement was the ‘canal and river tour’… Nancy the germaphobe was aghast at the water… and all we tried to do was not get water in anyplace that could promote parasite growth.. we are happy to inform you… we did not get sick


Wat Arun… was a bunch of young folks dressed up in traditional outfits.. taking photos… 

Enamored with the food at the buffet… we missed the best shopping… here is the bag I bought… we could have bought more… but NO time.

Embarkation day for Nancy… and a mystery… Finished the report for NEI in the morning and sent to the client, Nancy and I had a lovely breakfast at the Waldorf… Went up to the pool deck to see the view   And then we set out to visit Jim Thompson’s House .   But best laid plans… Not unlike Dug in the Pixar movie Up… Squirrel… we were easily distracted…  7-eleven in search of an plug adapter (found!!) 20 February - Nha Trang, Vietnam

 For me… a second trip.. but this time I got off the boat… Crazy hot… did some shopping at the market… still no elephant pants for my family We did buy some stuff… Nancy is very good at haggling!!!  Had a coffee at a hip and trendy shop… and then went home… spent…  We took very few photos… Nancy calls this ‘The little red boat’ If you blow it up… you can see the BIG Buddha Here is a classic of the electrical systems in Asia… i have a tee shirt that memorializes it… One of the beach locations One last look of Nha Trang

25 and 26 January - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Port Klang…. About an hour away from Kuala Lumpur.  So the first day did the highlights of KL (as the locals say).  The tour included the following highlights: Royal Selangor - pewter factory Petronas Twin Towers Tun Abdul Razak Memorial and National Mosque Independence Square and Old Railway Station Central Market We had a monsoon in the middle of the tour… which made a few of the stops just ‘bus stops’.. but the last place was the Central Market.  The market was a fun happening, I hung out with Barbara another solo traveler… I actually did some bartering and bought a really cute purse and some silk ‘wrap pants’… pictures below with a bit of commentary I did buy a money tree and Zodiac Figurine for 1957 Great tour - saw them pour the pewter into molds, polishing etc… and for some reason I didn’t take any photos And no… i did not buy and Star Wars characters !!!  Petronas Twin Towers and me Why we didn’t get out of the bus Of course no pics… but Central Market was a...
