Day 13 - The Adventure to Nepal Begins
So there are only 5 of us traveling to Kathmandu. Bob and Christie from Richmond VA (also traveling all the way to Tokyo) and Connie and Joseph from Munich. Both absolutely lovely!!!
So let me explain immigration at the Mumbai seaport…. It is a s*it show… it took us each a minimum of 15 minutes to get through… and then Joseph’s passport was stamped with the wrong date TWICE… Our passports were checked 2 more times leaving the port…
Mumbai is a big city (22 M people). I took a couple of photos from the bus. Air quality reminded me of Beijing .
Finally made it to the airport… passport checked to get into the terminal… then at check in… then through immigration… apparently the fact that we arrived that day.. and were leaving the same day was perplexing … and required supervisory approval… Anyway we finally made it on the plane to Nepal. I was sitting next to Bob and Christie.. and Connie, Joseph and our guide Shane were behind us… and then the excitement began…
All of the sudden Bob slumped over… Christie started to try and ‘wake’ him up… he was unresponsive. The call was made for a doctor on the plane… EMTs finally came. Bob was responsive but out of it when the wheeled him off the plane. Our guide went with them, to help navigate the hospital. When we got to Kathmandu… we found out that Bob was going to be released from the hospital and rejoin the boat. So that is good news..they are an adorable couple who spent their Honeymoon in Lake Tahoe..
So Connie, Joseph and I arrived in Kathmandu ( a couple of hours late)… but the hotel is magical… and the restaurant also fabulous.. a couple of pictures of the hotel… tomorrow we leave at 5:30 am for a flightseeing tour of the mountains…
Here is a link to the hotel site for more info Dwarikas Hotel
Tomorrow Everest (without Sherpas :) ) Nite for now
Ps.. turndown service included a hot water bottle…oh and ANOTHER time zone change … this one 15 minutes ahead 🤔
Wow. Hope Bob stays ok. That is really scary. Love the reportage Lizzie. Mary Edith.(p.s. I'm late catching up on the blog but I’ll get there. )
